At this Thursday's meeting we will be welcoming three individuals from the industry: Mike Powell, Alyson Kwan, and Lindsey Peddle. Each bring experience and skill sets that will provide you with a unique insight into the industry. Hope to see you all out there!
As of January 2016, Mike Powell joined the Roynat team as a Senior Associate based out of St. John’s. Born and bred in Bay Roberts, NL, Mike completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree as well as an MBA at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University in Ottawa. He has also passed all three Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams. In his new role with Roynat, Mike contributes to all aspects of Roynat’s operations in Newfoundland including originating deal flow, managing relationships, and underwriting investments.
Prior to joining the Roynat team, Mike was employed as the Senior Finance Associate with Suske Capital, a boutique Private Equity firm based out of Toronto that invests in real estate, renewable energy and emerging technology ventures in North America and Europe. Suske Capital also provides M&A Advisory, Investment Banking and Asset Management services.
In this role, Mike has worked on in excess of $300M in transactions over the past three years. Dealflow consisted primarily of seniors housing development, portfolio divestments, and management buyouts.
While at Carleton, Mike was Portfolio Manager of The Fund @ Sprott, a student-managed equity portfolio with $1M in Assets Under Management. Under his management, this team earned a 6th place finish based on annual risk adjusted returns at the largest student investment conference in the world. He is also a dedicated musician who loves a good kitchen party.

Alyson is a MUN Alumni graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and then again in 2014 with a Business Administration degree. She began her career with Scotiabank in 2013 in Toronto as a Client Portfolio Analyst. While in Toronto Alyson acted as Co-Chair for Shared Services United Way Toronto and won a Best of the Best Award top individual award in 2014. After two years in Toronto she ventured back to the East Coast and is currently working as a Client Solutions Analyst within Scotia’s Commercial Distribution Group in St. John’s. Alyson is a past President of the Memorial University Investment Society (now Edge Capital) and was a group member of MUNs case team for the 2013 CFA Research challenge.
Lindsey is a MUN Alumni graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Lindsey has been a Commercial banker for 4 years. Lindsey started with Scotiabank in 2012 and is currently a Client Relationship Manager with a portfolio of approximately 40 clients with aggregate borrowing $40 million. This year Lindsey was awarded Scotiabanks Best of the Best Top Individual award for her outstanding performance in 2015. Lindsey takes an active role within Scotiabanks Women In Leadership and is President of Scotia Young Professionals.
